+ Good reputation for organisers as a world-famous venue + Highly experienced staff, smooth processes, little waiting time + Central location in Munich's old town - High minimum turnover - No parking spaces for cars and buses, only taxi stands - Not wheelchair accessible, complicated delivery of AV equipment due to small liftsBergvagabunden – Bavarian live music and Bavarian dancers at the Hofbrauhaus
Singer/musician Elmar Wiesenmuller performs regularly with his band Bergvagabunden at the Hofbrauhaus, around 15 times in 2025 alone. The band first plays traditional Bavarian music, then the Bavarian dancers perform (prices at schuhplattler.de) and after dinner, the band Bergvagabunden plays international party music. During the breaks, the band does the DJing themselves. Bergvagabunden brings its own event equipment, so organisers don't have to worry about a thing when they book Bergvagabunden for their corporate event at the Hofbrauhaus in Munich.Video: corporate event at Hofbrauhaus Munich
How does Hofbräuhaus seating work?
Hofbräuhaus in Munich uses mostly open, communal seating where you seat yourself at long shared tables, with only a minority of areas bookable in advance. It is very popular with tourists but still attracts locals, and many would call it a “tourist trap” in atmosphere while others see it as a historic, genuinely Bavarian beer hall worth experiencing at least once. On the main ground floor (“Schwemme”) and in the beer garden, there is seating: you simply find a space at one of the large tables (often for 10 people) and sit down. You usually share tables with strangers; typical etiquette is to ask “Ist hier frei?” before joining a partly occupied table. Only a smaller upstairs area, the Bräustüberl on the second floor, takes regular reservations, generally for groups of four or more.
Is Hofbräuhaus a tourist trap? How many people fit in Hofbräuhaus?
Hofbräuhaus is Munich’s most famous and most crowded beer hall, and it has a reputation among some visitors as loud, chaotic, and heavily touristed. Travel writers note that, while many label it a tourist trap, it still serves classic Bavarian beer and food with live music in a unique historic setting, so it remains a recommended “must‑see” stop for first‑time visitors. The building has roughly 3,500 seats spread over three levels, plus additional outdoor seating in the beer garden. Some descriptions, counting all rooms and outdoor areas together, refer to around 5,000 total seats as a rough maximum including inside and outside.
What is the Hofbrauhaus Munich famous for?
Hofbräuhaus dates back to 1589 as the ducal brewery for the Bavarian court, later opened to the public by King Ludwig I in 1828, and is now one of the world’s most famous beer halls. It is known for its Hofbräu beer, hearty Bavarian dishes, oompah band, and vaulted, painted halls, as well as its role in darker history as a key meeting place for the early Nazi Party in the upstairs festival hall.
